I worked with Navin for over a year and he was the best trainer I've ever had. I have played sports all of my life and worked with dozens of strength and conditioning coaches and Navin was by far the best.

When I started with Navin, I hadn't worked out consistently for a few years and I was in the worst shape of my life. He created a custom program that was broken down into stages - first reintroducing me to being active and working out again, then gradually building up my program with complexity and intensity. In addition, he paid special attention to previous injuries that I had, both to strengthen those areas and to be mindful of them as the workouts got harder and harder. Navin also helped me with my diet and with the mental factors that are necessary to make significant changes; he encouraged me to make little changes consistently and to keep working through individual workouts or phases even if they felt too challenging.

Before working with Navin, I had never touched a kettlebell in my life. At first, I was skeptical of it, but Navin insisted that kettlebells were not only incredibly challenging, but also strangely addicting - and he was absolutely right! I'm so happy to have learned how to use kettlebells in my workouts, and I find myself continually going back and finding new ways to use them.

Lastly, one of the things I appreciated most in my year working with Navin was his willingness to teach. As we went through every exercise or new training phase, he'd explain how and why we were doing what we were doing. Now, despite the fact that Navin has moved away and I no longer have the pleasure of working with him, I'm able to take what I've learned from him and am able to continue pushing myself and make gains in my fitness.

Navin began training both my husband and I about a year before our wedding. He got us into what is by far the best shape of our lives and it is a testament to his abilities that he was able to help us achieve our vastly differing goals. My husband putt on mass and lost weight, while I was able to become leaner and more toned without putting on any bulk. Navin's approach is a holistic, scientific and thoughtful one. He is fastidious about good form, and therefore preventing injuries, and worked with us on making adjustments to our eating habits that supported the exercise we were doing in a way that was still reasonable and feasible for our lifestyle.

My husband and I spent a lot of time with Navin over the course of the year before he left New York, and seeing and talking to him was always a pleasure. He is kind, fun and incredibly intelligent and that certainly made working out a much more enjoyable experience and helped us remain committed to achieving our goals. My husband calls him both a friend, as do I, and probably because he is a former athlete, his dearly missed coach. Turkish get-up's forever.

Navin’s approach to health and wellness is perfectly suited for those just starting on their fitness journey as well as the experienced athlete. I truly appreciated the merging of his background as a trainer and in exercise science – thereby allowing him to  create a custom program designed to reach my strength/aesthetic targets and my overall health goals. Navin has the unique ability to push you to improve while simultaneously lifting you up. Refinery Fitness is a gem of the Hudson Valley and I highly recommend it!!
